This Scooby Snack Shot recipe is a delicious and tropical alcoholic drink with a fun bright green color!
These Scooby Snack Shots are such a delicious cocktail. Also known as a Scooby Doo Shot, or Scooby Shot, they have such a fruity, tropical flavor and just look at that neon green color!
Similar to a White Tea shot, or Lemon Drop shot, this is super easy to make. But, like an Irish Trash Can drink, it has a really fun name and color. And while it’s a great shot to order at a bar or restaurant, try making it at home with this easy recipe!
Ingredients
- Midori Melon Liqueur: you can use any melon liqueur or substitute the green Midori for Blue Curacoa for a blue Scooby Snack drink.
- Heavy Whipping Cream: this is what gives this shot its creamy texture. You can substitute the heavy cream with coconut cream, creme de banane, or omit it entirely.
- Whipped Cream: These creamy, sweet, tropical shots go great with canned whipped cream on top. I personally prefer Whip Shots, it goes perfect with these! But you can use any type of whipped cream, including homemade. Or, omit the whipped cream entirety.
- Maraschino Cherries: these are a delicious garnish for shot, but you can also use sliced oranges and/or pineapple.
How to Make
These shots are so fun and simple! Simply add the Midori, Pineapple Juice, Heavy Whipping Cream, and Malibu Coconut Rum to the cocktail shaker along with some ice.
Shake until cold and then pour into a shot glass. If desired, garnish with some whipped cream, cherries, and/or pineapple or orange wedges. Then, enjoy!
Variations
- Blue Scooby Snack Shots: replace the Midori melon liquor with Blue Curaçao.
- Scooby Snack Martini: Increase the Midori and Coconut Rum to 1 oz and pineapple juice and whipping cream to ½ oz. Shake and pour into a martini glass and top with whipped cream and a cherry.
- Vegan Scooby Shots: omit the heavy whipping cream, or replace with coconut cream or creme de banane. You can do this for the shot or the cocktail.
- Banana Scooby Doo Shot: Add 1/4 oz of banana liqueur such as creme de banane.
Tips and Tricks
- 1/2 oz equals one tablespoon of liquid.
- This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled if making Scooby Shots for a crowd.
- Because of the cream, these shots can start to separate a bit so it’s not recommended to make ahead of time.
FAQ
This shot tastes tropical and sweet. It’s delicious with the pineapple and coconut, plus the melon flavor is not overpowering, but adds more of a sweet and fruity flavor. And the whipping cream adds a touch of creaminess that balances the sweetness.
Some say it is named after the classic Scooby Doo carton and Shaggy’s green shirt and the neon Mystery Machine van, others say it’s named after a Japanese holistic medicine doctor Nishiwaki Scooby, that believed in the healing power of melon, coconut, and milk.
But, I wasn’t able to find anything to confirm either of these claims so the origin of this tasty drink remains unknown.
Because the cream can start to separate a bit, I don’t recommend making these ahead of time or pre-mixing a big batch unless you omit the whipping cream or replace with creme de banane.
