Also known as Oreo Fluff Dessert or Cookies and Cream Fluff, this recipe is a type of fluff salad made with Oreo cookies.

A fluff salad is a fluffy sweet dessert salad, typically made with whipped topping or whipped cream, and fruit.

This version has no fruit and uses pudding mix and Oreos, in addition to the whipped topping.  It's often compared to dirt cake and eaten the same way, with a spoon!

While it's similar to Oreo dip, Oreo dip uses cream cheese so it is thicker and creamier, and often found as an appetizer or on dessert boards.

This Oreo Dessert Fluff recipe is most often made as a dessert itself or as a side dish found at BBQs, potlucks, picnics, and holidays. It's a classic and crowd pleasing dessert well loved by both children and adults.

Why you'll love it:

  • It's easy: This recipe has only 4 ingredients and 10 minute prep time, making it a super simple no-bake dessert!
  • Make ahead: This dessert can easily be make up to a day ahead of time!
  • Versatile: It's super easy to switch up the flavors by using different flavors of pudding or Oreo cookies.

Ingredients

oreo fluff ingredients of milk, oreos, pudding mix, and cool whip.
  • Instant Vanilla Pudding: the recipe calls for vanilla, but you can also use chocolate pudding cheesecake pudding, or sugar-free pudding. They're all delicious! Just make sure the box is instant and not the stovetop kind or the recipe won't thicken up properly.
  • Cool Whip: You can substitute 8 oz of fresh whipped cream in place of the frozen whipped topping.
  • Oreo Sandwich Cookies: Any type of Oreo cookies will work in this recipe.  You can also mix up the flavors by using peanut butter Oreos, Golden Oreos, etc.

How to Make

This dessert fluff salad recipe couldn't be any simpler. It takes less than 10 minutes to make and is a great make ahead recipe.

Step 1: Whisk Milk and Pudding

Cover the bowl and refrigerate until the pudding has set, at least an hour but up to 24 hours in advance.  Then, top with more crushed cookies or whipped cream and enjoy!

Tips and Tricks

  • For a thicker fluff salad, only use 1 ½ cups of milk.
  • Be gentle when folding in the whipped topping to keep the fluff light and fluffy.
  • The finer the Oreos are crushed, the smoother and greyer the texture of the fluff.
  • If making in advance, you can add the crushed cookies right before serving to keep them slightly crunchy (although they will soften as the fluff sits).
  • This recipe makes about 4 to 5 cups fluff and can easily be halved for small servings, or doubled or tripled if feeding large crowds.

Variations

  • Oreo Marshmallow Fluff: Fold in 1 ½ cup of mini marshmallows along with the cookies.
  • Easy Oreo Pie: Decrease milk to 1 cup, fold in 2 cups of mini marshmallows along with the cookies, and add the mixture to a pre-made Oreo cookie pie crust to set.
  • Oreo Fluff Trifle: You can use this in place of custard, pudding, or whipped cream in a trifle.
  • Different Flavored Fluff: Try using different flavors of pudding or Oreo cookies! Lemon pudding, with lemon Oreo cookies would be really delicious.

FAQ

What is the best way to crush the Oreo cookies?

You can place them in a large freezer bag and hit it with a rolling pin, or chop them with a knife. Both methods work great. Just know the smaller the pieces of cookies, the smoother and grayer the dessert salad will be.
For a perfectly smooth Oreo salad, you can use a food processor to crush the cookies.

Why is my dessert fluff runny?

First, make sure the pudding is instant pudding! If it's the stovetop kind the milk and pudding will not thicken up and the fluff will not turn out and be too thin.
If you want a thicker dessert fluff that you can possibly dip fruit in, only add one to one and a half cups of milk.

Can you freeze this fluff salad recipe?

For best texture, this recipe is made and enjoyed without freezing. But, you can freeze any leftovers in an airght container or freezer bag for up to two months. But, when defrosted, the texture might be a a bit different then when originally made.

Making Ahead and Storing

This recipe can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored tightly covered or in an airtight container in the refrigerator. If you'd like to keep the cookies slightly crunchy, fold in just before serving.

Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 1-2 days.

Serving Oreo Dessert Fluff

This Oreo fluff recipe is a common dessert or side dish at potlucks, picnics, and BBQs because of it's so easy to make and is super easy to transport large batches.

It's also really common at holidays like Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter.  But, you also can serve it like pudding in small or individual dishes for a make ahead dessert for dinner parties and family gatherings.

Similar to pudding, you can serve it alone or topped with vanilla or chocolate whipped cream, marshmallows, fruit such as strawberries or banana slices, shortbread or wafter cookies, or more crushed Oreo cookies.

There are also a lot of unique ways to serve this or use up leftovers, such as using it as a topping for ice cream, brownies, and cookies.  You can even use it in place of pastry cream or whipped cream as a unique filling for in cream puffs or tart shells.  So fun and delicious!
