This Oreo Cookie Dip is such a fun and unique dip for parties and events.  It is a sweet dip, known as a dessert dip, not to be confused with Oreo fluff, which is an actual pudding like dessert.

This sweet party dip goes by many different names:

  • Oreo Party Dip
  • Cookies and Cream Dip
  • Oreo Cheesecake Dip
  • Oreo Cream Cheese Dip

But, one thing remains constant –  it is a crowd pleasing appetizer or snack that tastes like Oreo cheesecake, in a bowl!

Paired with pretzels, graham crackers, and fruit such as strawberries or apple slices, this recipe is sure to be a hit at your next gathering and goes great on a dessert board!

Ingredients

oreo dip ingredients.
  • Whipped Topping: Cool whip is the most common brand, but you can use whatever type of whipped topping you'd like, including low-fat.  You can also use homemade or store bought whipped cream in the place of the cool whip.
  • Oreo Cookies: Any type of regular or double stuffed Oreos will work! Want a Golden Oreo Cookie dip? Mint Cookie Dip? Give it try! They'll all be delicious.  You can also use other types or brands of cookies and cream sandwich cookies.

How to Make

Step 1: Crush Oreos

There are a few ways to crush your Oreos.   You can use a freezer bag and crush with a rolling pin. You can also chop them with a knife, or use one or two pulses on a food processor.

If you crush them too much they will make a perfectly smooth and dark grey dip rather than a chunky cookie filled dip.

Step 2: Make Cheesecake Dip

making oreo dip.

In a large bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract.

Mix until smooth and combined, about 1-2 minutes. At this point, the cream cheese mixture can be made up to 1 day in advance.  Store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Step 3: Combine and Enjoy!

When ready to serve, gently fold in the defrosted whipped topping or whipped cream and crushed Oreo cookies.  Serve immediately or chilled with fun dippers such as animal crackers, strawberries, or more Oreo cookies.

Variations

  • Halloween:  to make this spooky Oreo dessert dip, use Halloween Oreos, of course!
  • S'mores: Add marshmallows on top and then use a cooking torch or broil in an oven for a few minutes until golden brown on top.

Tips and Tricks

  • Make sure your butter and cream cheese are softened or at room temperature or else they won't combine properly.
  • You can use vanilla whipped cream in place of thawed whipped topping if desired.
  • If you want a chunky cookie filled dip, don't crush up the Oreos too much. The finer the cookies, the darker and smoother the dip.
  • To keep the cookies crunchy, mix in cookies and whipped topping right before serving.
  • The sweet dessert dip will turn more gray in color as it sits, but will still taste delicious.
