Deviled strawberries are a fun and easy dessert or appetizer that’s been making the rounds all over TikTok and social media.
Similar to candied strawberries, these are a simple (and viral!) strawberry recipe. It combines fresh strawberries with a creamy, sweet filling for a treat that’s as tasty as it is elegant and unique. Perfect for parties, holidays, or even a casual dessert, they’re surprisingly easy to make and a big hit with everyone who tries them.
Why You’ll Love it:
- Easy: With just a few ingredients and minimal prep, they’re ready in no time.
- Beautiful: The fresh berries and piped cream cheese filling make them a show-stopping addition to any dessert or appetizer table.
- Customizable: Add flavors like chocolate, vanilla, or citrus to the filling to suit your taste!
Ingredients
- Strawberries: Medium to large fresh, firm berries work best for holding the filling.
- Cream Cheese: Use softened cream cheese for a smooth filling. You can substitute with mascarpone for a richer flavor. Light cream cheese works too!
- Optional Garnishes: Top with chocolate shavings, crushed nuts, or crushed graham cracker or cookie crumbs for extra flavor and texture.
How to Make
Step 1: prep strawberries
- Wash and dry strawberries.
- Cut berries in half lengthwise, leaving the stem on the berries for easier handling.
- If desires, use an extra small melon baller or 1/4 tsp measuring spoon to scoop out a small bit of the berry to make room for more filling.
Step 2: Making Filling
Mix cream cheese and sugar: Mix cream cheese, powdered sugar, salt (and cocoa powder if using).
Add cream and vanilla: Mix in the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
Add to Pastry Bag: Add the filling to a pastry bag fitted with a small piping tip. Check out this post on using pastry bags for tips.
Step 3: Add Filling
Pipe a teaspoon or so of filling onto the center of the berries. Sprinkle with crushed cookies, or other garnish if desired. Enjoy immediately!
Tips and Tricks
- Look for strawberries that larger and on the firmer side. They hold the filling the best and last a little longer when serving!
- Make sure your cream cheese is nice and soft, otherwise it won’t combine with the sugar.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, use a resealable plastic bag with the corner snipped off. Or, use a teaspoon to drop a small amount of filling on top of each berry.
- Try garnishing with a drizzle of chocolate, shaved chocolate, any type of crushed cookies, nuts, etc.
Storing and Making Ahead
The cheesecake filling can be made up to one day ahead of time and piped into the berries immediately before serving. These are best enjoyed immediately after assembling (but can be make an hour ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve).
